day 4.
day 3.
day 2.
Day 1.
The beginning.
I’ve never been one for New Years resolutions. Who can manage anything on January 1st whens its generally hot and humid and paired more often than not with a hangover? No, Instead I tend to make my resolutions in February around my birthday, following my own annual calendar. It’s much more manageable that way.
My February resolution this year is to draw. To learn, experiment, develop skills and to challenge myself.
From the 15th of February 2015 until the 15th of February 2016 I will draw every single day. Hopefully. I’m not known for my discipline, but what I lack in discipline I make up for in enthusiasm.
Today I bought a sketch book and a tin of pencil. I spent half an hour in the art shop weighing up my options – Spiral bound versus perfect bound, soft cover versus hard cover, feeling for the perfect paper to find just the right amount of texture and thickness. I tested pencil after pencil, scribbling away on the test pad until it was of no use to anyone else. In the end I settled on a Daler Rowney A5 perfect bound Ebony sketch book that will see me through my first 61 days and a Wolffs Graphite sketch set. I’m very happy with my selections. There’s nothing quite as enticing to me as a blank sketch book and fresh, sharp pencils.
I’m no great drawer. I have always dabbled here and there and working in fashion means I draw often, but thats a very different kind of drawing. Through this project I want to learn about various techniques and principles, I want to learnt to loosen my style (the opposite to technical fashion drawing) and most importantly I want to experiment and to have fun, which is why I will be sticking with no particular style or theme.
I will post my sketch every day irrespective of its quality. The good, the bad and the ugly.
Wish me luck!
